September 2020

01 September 2020

And one minute it was the start of a new month and the next a whole week had flown by. Just the usual things going on with the vineyard, pruning, putting the wires back up ready for the growth, watching the vines go from no buds to wooly buds to bud burst and leaf growth everywhere, weed spraying, mechanical repairs, gardens, setting up the greenhouse for the veggies and flowers, and anything else you can think about.

The weather has been wet, sunny and everything in between. Don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes. Working in the vineyard means you need your gum boots on and a waterproof coat with you for. You can be working away in the sun but look up and there is rain and a shower just over the ridge heading your way, so it;s no wonder they get a metre of rain throughout the year.

Ducketts View 1

The view from the shed door and next to where we are parked looking South.

We have also continued exploring the area and found a nice spot down at Crusoe Beach, complete with Pelican colony and a small jetty with small fishing boats, and of course, we need to go back again for some more photo's.

Crusoe Beach

Four of the hundred gliding past.

The boss also had her birthday early this month so she hired a local tour bus and took all of the employees and us into Albany for a meal at a very nice Thai restaurant. Suffice to say the food was good and there was quite a bit to drink on the way, there, and on the way back. A good time being had by all.

Being towards the end of Winter now, the weather has been interesting to say the least. Still plenty of wet days, but less and less rain if that makes sense. It is interesting, and enjoyable to be out in the vineyard, to look up and see clouds forming or light crossing the land, and it often the clouds forming that scream "take my photo".

Dam Cloudy

One of those clouds that formed and kept on changing shape, colour and intensity.

Most days we start our chores around 7.30am and work until lunch at 11. Then we either head off to do as we please, or put in another couple of hours, because we can, and because it is so nice to just be here. Of course there are trips to town for shopping and to the dump point, or even some photography scouting trips. Exploring further away on the weekends.

But of course, a look out the window at the sky is often a good excuse to get up early to head off to grab some shots, and as the afternoon wears on looking at the light or the clouds is always good for a sunset trip.

Foggy Coast

The Belt of Venus at sunrise over the coast and the morning fog.

Foggy Karri 1

The fog rolling up the hill and the soft sunlight trying to get through made for a great Karri tree shot.

Foggy Karri 2

And the sunlight starts to win.

Foggy Sun

Don't forget to look behind, and towards the sun. This was an opportune shot.

Foggy Scotsdale Rd

Yet another shot along Scotsdale Road as the light starts to warm the foggy scene.

Foggy Scotsdale Rd 2

Light bursts through the trees and onto Scotsdale Road amidst the fog.

30 September 2020

And so another month ends, and shortly so will our time here with beautiful people, in beautiful Denmark. It's time to prepare for the up coming grain harvest which we will again spend at Bruce Rock, putting some money back in the bank ready for whatever next year brings.

Mark Twain once said "...years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do that by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - and so we will.
